If a market you know is not here

It is almost certainly monthly. Plenty of Australian markets run on the second Sunday, or the last Saturday, and are closed the other three weeks. That is the single most common reason people arrive at an empty car park.

Season is the other reason. Darwin's dry season markets run roughly April to October, and twilight markets in the southern states are mostly a summer thing. Check the market's own page for the dates it runs.
