New Brighton Farmers Market
A not-for-profit Tuesday morning farmers market at Tom Kendall Oval, running since 2007 with more than 30 farmers and food producers.

About this market
New Brighton Farmers Market has run since 2007, set up by the North Byron Farmers Market Association, a not-for-profit. It trades every Tuesday from 7am to 11am at Tom Kendall Oval on River Street, New Brighton, in the Byron Shire.
Farmers, producers and a kids' corner
The market's own website says more than 30 farmers and food producers sell here. Its product list covers seasonal fruit and vegetables, sourdough bread, eggs, milk, cheeses, tempeh, macadamias, olives, spices, coffee, honey, seafood and oysters. There is live music each week, along with regular workshops and cooking demonstrations, and the Kiddies Plot, a weekly kids' space with free art and craft activities.
Market at a glance
New Brighton is a small place. Wikipedia describes it as north-west of Ocean Shores, in the Northern Rivers region, and the 2021 census recorded 368 residents. European settlement began in the 1860s with cedar-getters' camps, and logs were floated down the nearby creeks. The area is the land of the Minjungbal people of the Bundjalung Nation, its Traditional Owners. Logs were floated out through Marshall's and Wilson's Creek. The name New Brighton was in local use by 1902 and was officially designated in 1971, and early promotional material from 1906 to 1908 compared the town to the English seaside resort.
Good to know before you go
Tuesday is a working-day market, and the 7am start suits an early shop before work. The market is run by a not-for-profit association rather than a private operator.
The North Byron Farmers Market Association that runs this market also set up the Mullumbimby Farmers Market in April 2010.
The same association also runs the Mullumbimby Farmers Market on Fridays, so a shopper based in the north of the shire can see both in one week. The Mullumbimby market was set up by the same association in April 2010 and trades at the Mullum Showground. For stallholder enquiries and the latest news, the market's website and Facebook page are the places to check.
