Kiama Farmers Market

A Wednesday market at Surf Beach that started as a 2013 road trip to another market and turned into a decade-plus fixture.

About this market

Kiama Farmers Market began with a road trip. In September 2013, Kiama Visitor Centre manager Tricia Ashelford and a handful of local businesswomen, including Fiona Walmsley of Buena Vista Farm and cafe owner Cathy Law, drove south to Moruya to see the SAGE Farmers Market in action. They came home convinced Kiama needed one of its own, and the market opened at Black Beach in February 2014.

From Black Beach to a decade at Surf Beach

Storm damage forced a move to Coronation Park at Surf Beach in 2016, and the market has traded there every Wednesday since, adjusting its hours with the seasons rather than sticking to a fixed slot year-round. The tenth anniversary in 2024 was marked with an aerial photo of the crowd forming the number 10 on the sand, a small measure of how attached the town has become to it. Regular stallholders include The Pines Kiama, a sixth-generation regenerative farm, and Buena Vista Farm and Flour Water Salt bakery among the produce and baked goods.

One of the regulars, Pecora Dairy, has picked up three gold medals at the Sydney Royal Easter Show for its sheep's milk cheese, which is a genuinely competitive result rather than a local-market-only claim to fame.

Hours shift between the warmer and cooler months, so it's worth checking the current trading hours panel above rather than assuming a fixed time. The market sits right at Surf Beach, so combining a visit with a walk along the coast is easy if the weather cooperates.
