Kingsway Community Markets

Most weekly markets in Perth's northern suburbs are run by councils or market operators. Kingsway Community Markets are run by a soccer club: Olympic Kingsway Sports Club puts on a produce market every Saturday morning inside the Kingsway Regional Sporting Complex in Madeley, year round, in whatever weather turns up.

A grocery run with a playground attached

The stall list is built for people doing a genuine weekly shop rather than browsing. Seasonal fruit and vegetables, gourmet meat, a bakery with fresh bread and pastries, honey, preserves, popcorn, cakes and pantry staples make up the core, with cold pressed juice, coffee and hot breakfast covering the rest of the morning. Sausage sizzles and bacon and egg rolls do the heavy lifting from 8am. Local musicians play, face painting runs for the kids, and a small area with low tables and toys is usually set up for the youngest ones.

The location is the part that makes families keep coming back. Dinosaur Park is exactly what it sounds like, a dinosaur-themed playground with a splash zone alongside it, sitting in open green space within the sporting complex. Parents can hand the market over to a coffee and a bench while the kids run off. The complex also means plenty of flat paths and free parking, which is not always the case for a Saturday morning market.

Good to know before you go

Most stallholders take cards, but there is no ATM anywhere on the site, so carry some cash as a backup. Get there closer to 8am than to noon if fruit and vegetables are the reason for the trip. The market runs every Saturday without a seasonal break, which makes it a reliable option in winter when many Perth markets stop. If you are navigating, aim for Goal Way and Dinosaur Park rather than the club on Bellerive Boulevard, and expect the playground to be the busiest part of the site from mid-morning onward.
