Freo Farmers Market

A market founded in 2010 as a school P&C fundraiser, which outgrew its original high school when the school itself was renamed and rebuilt.

About this market

Freo Farmers Market began in 2010 as Growers Green Farmers Market, a genuinely grassroots initiative launched by the Parents and Citizens Association at South Fremantle High School. What started as a school fundraising project on the school's own grounds has since grown well beyond its original scope, moving twice before settling into its current home at Bruce Lee Oval in Beaconsfield.

From a school P&C project to a Fremantle institution

Kylie Wheatley took over as manager in 2014, and when South Fremantle High School underwent a major renovation and was renamed Fremantle College in 2018, Wheatley's own business, Red Tent Events, stepped in to lease the space and keep the market running for the community, with support from the City of Fremantle. That transition from a purely school-run event to a professionally managed community market marks the point where Freo Farmers Market truly became its own institution.

Reviewers consistently name it a favourite Sunday ritual, praising the fresh organic produce, family-friendly atmosphere, and dog-friendly policy, with a petting zoo drawing particular praise from families visiting with young kids alongside the market's regular food trucks and breakfast options.

Did you know?

Freo Farmers Market began life as a school parents' committee fundraiser, and grew large enough that when its original host school was renamed and rebuilt in 2018, the market itself moved on to become its own standalone community institution.

Good to know before you go

Parking can be genuinely tricky given the market's popularity, so scouting nearby off-street options is worth doing rather than circling for a close spot. The petting zoo and kids' activities make it a particularly good choice for a family Sunday outing.
