Healesville Organic Market

A weekly Saturday morning organic farmers market at Coronation Park in Healesville, running since 2004 with growers and makers selling direct.

About this market

The Healesville Organic Market is a weekly farmers market held every Saturday from 8:30am to 12pm at Coronation Park on River Street in Healesville. It was established in 2004 to give residents of the Yarra Valley a way to buy fresh, organically grown produce direct from local farmers, and the market describes itself as a year-round weekly supply of local organic produce and more.

Growers and makers selling their own produce

According to the market, all of the fruit, herbs and vegetables sold are grown organically, and baked goods are made from organic ingredients where possible. Since 2004 the line-up has grown to include honey, seeds and seedlings, breads and bagels, homemade sweet treats, cheeses, mushrooms and locally roasted coffee. A feature of the model is that the stallholders are the growers and makers of their own products, with a single fresh produce wholesaler present to fill the gaps where local organic produce is not available.

The stallholders page names several regulars. Plum and Rye brings naturally leavened breads, preserves and baked goods made in a home bakery in Hurstbridge. Thumbs Up Seed and Seedlings sells organic seedlings grown in Buxton. Cathedral Valley Honey offers honeys from different local flora, Fungi I Find sells home grown mushrooms and wild foraged fungi, and Bear Bagels sells bagels, pretzels and sweet baked treats. Seasonal items turn up too, such as organic strawberries and flowers from Callavale.

Good to know before you go

The market operates in all weather, and shoppers are encouraged to bring their own bags and baskets to cut down on plastics and food packaging. Stallholder details and contact information are on the market's website, and enquiries go by email through the address at the bottom of the page.

Healesville is a town about 64 kilometres north-east of the Melbourne CBD, on the Watts River in the Shire of Yarra Ranges, with 7,589 residents at the 2021 census. It was surveyed as a town in 1864 and named after Richard Heales, Premier of Victoria from 1860 to 1861. The area is best known for Healesville Sanctuary, a nature park with native animals and a platypus breeding program, and for the Yarra Valley Railway, which runs from Healesville Station on Sundays and most public holidays. Much of the town lies on the ancestral land of the Wurundjeri people, and the nearby Coranderrk Aboriginal reserve was established in 1863.

Healesville also hosts a separate general community market on the first and third Sunday of the month, so a weekend visit can take in both, one for organic produce on Saturday and one for stalls and crafts on Sunday.
