Bright Farmers Market

A monthly riverside market in Howitt Park, run by the Bright and District Chamber of Commerce since 2010.

About this market

Bright Markets has been providing residents and visitors to the Alpine Valley with a local market since 2010. It is an initiative of the Bright and District Chamber of Commerce, sponsored by the Alpine Shire Council, and it runs on the third Saturday of every month in Howitt Park on the banks of the Ovens River.

Produce, art and trout beside the Ovens

The market sells fresh produce, including nuts, fruit and vegetables, freshly baked breads, olive oil and pasta, wine and ales, locally made cheeses, honey, jams and trout. Alongside the food are original artworks, woodwork, homewares and skincare, as well as kids fashion and jewellery, and there is fresh food for eating on the spot.

Bright is in the Alpine Shire at the south-eastern end of the Ovens Valley, 319 metres above sea level, and had a population of 2,620 at the 2021 census. Hamilton Hume and William Hovell explored the area in 1824 and named the Ovens River. The town was once known as Morse's Creek and was renamed Bright in the 1860s. Tourism is its main industry, with a focus on the autumn colours of its European trees and the Bright Autumn Festival and Wikipedia notes that the population swells over summer, particularly after Christmas. The town is also close to Mount Buffalo National Park and the Victorian Alps.

It is a pet-friendly market, with pets on a lead. For stallholder or general enquiries, contact the chamber at [email protected], and follow the market's Facebook and Instagram pages for news.
