The West End Markets

The West End Markets run every Saturday in Davies Park, on the Brisbane River, under a canopy of Moreton Bay fig trees. The market has traded under other names, including Davies Park Markets and the Green Flea Markets, and is now run by Goodwill Projects.

Shade, produce and live music

Over 150 vendors set up each week, selling farm-fresh produce, healthy fast food, boutique fashion and handcrafted gifts. Live music and street performers are part of the offer rather than an occasional extra, which gives Saturday mornings a community-festival feel. The market opens at 6am, with a 2pm finish from March to November and 1pm from December to February.

The fig trees that provide the shade are a living feature. Some of the giant Moreton Bay figs on site have been affected by a fungal disease, Phellinus noxius, spreading through Queensland.

Good to know before you go

Parking can be limited on Saturdays. The market says Souths Leagues Club has $5 parking at the Jane Street entrance, and it recommends public transport, cycling, rideshares or scooters instead. Go early if a full stall selection matters, especially in summer, when the market finishes an hour sooner.

West End is an inner southern suburb of Brisbane with 14,730 residents at the 2021 census, bounded to the west and south by the Brisbane River. Its Aboriginal name is Kurilpa, meaning place of the water rat. The river-and-fig-tree setting is pleasant to sit and eat in, so budget time to linger. Hours can change, and the market asks visitors to check its social media. The suburb is adjacent to South Brisbane and Highgate Hill, and the three make up a peninsula of the Brisbane River.
