Montville Growers and Makers Market
A volunteer-run market around Montville Village Hall on the second Saturday of the month, famous for its pancake breakfast.

About this market
Montville Growers and Makers Market began in July 2009 and is held on the second Saturday morning of each month in and around the Montville Village Hall. It is run under the auspices of the Montville Village Association, and the Sunshine Valley Gazette credits local artist Judith Sinnamon with the original idea.
Volunteers, pancakes and local produce
The market boasts a wholesome pancake breakfast made with locally sourced ingredients, cooked and served by volunteers. The Gazette reported that the breakfast was more popular than ever, and that the market had stayed true to its original objectives of bringing the community together.
Stalls sell locally grown fresh fruit and vegetables, flowers and plants, homemade produce, fresh bread and cakes, organic foods and fair trade coffee, and natural juices and gardening products. Stallholders pay a small fee, and the Market Co-ordinator approves each one to make sure the produce or craft fits the market.
Market at a glance
Before you go
The market runs from 7:30am to 12pm, according to its Facebook page, and surrounds the Village Hall on Memorial Close. Montville is a town on the Blackall Range, about 400 metres above sea level, and had a population of 1,092 at the 2021 census.
The first non-indigenous settlers arrived in 1887. The town was first called Razorback and was renamed Montville, a coined word from mont meaning mountain and ville meaning village, after a community meeting. Razorback Provisional School opened on 2 October 1896. The Gazette also noted that some of the market's original child volunteers, now adults, still help out alongside their parents. Stallholders who want a site should send bookings at least 14 days before the market date.
Montville was originally called Razorback and took its current name after a community meeting, officially on 30 November 1897.
