Gympie Showgrounds Farmers Market
A twice-monthly Sunday farmers market at the Gympie Showgrounds, run by volunteers from the Gympie Show Society.

About this market
Gympie Showgrounds Farmers Market runs on the second and fourth Sunday of every month, from 6am until 12 noon, at 77 Exhibition Road in Southside. It is managed by a group of volunteers from the Gympie Show Society, and it uses the society's showgrounds.
Produce, takeaway food and handmade goods
The market features fresh produce, takeaway food, handmade goods, plants and bric-a-brac, together with locally grown items from Queensland farmers. The organisers invite prospective stallholders to contact the market manager.
The showgrounds are in Southside, a semi-rural locality on the south-western bank of the Mary River, south of the Gympie town centre. Southside had a population of 6,312 at the 2021 census, and Gympie itself, a city famous for its gold field, lies about 170 km north of Brisbane. The city was first called Nashville after James Nash, who reported payable alluvial gold on 16 October 1867, and it was renamed Gympie in 1868 after the stinging tree, gimpi-gimpi, in the Gubbi Gubbi language. The Gympie Gold Rush Festival marks the discovery with 10 days of events in October, and Wikipedia notes that essentially all of Hawaii's macadamia trees descend from Gympie trees whose seeds were taken there in 1882.
Market at a glance
Before you go
The market starts early, at 6am, and runs until noon at the showgrounds on Exhibition Road. There is plenty of free parking available on site, and the laneways are all sealed.
The market continues in the rain unless there is a threat to public safety. The entire showgrounds is a smoke-free zone, and dogs are allowed on a leash and under control at all times.
The market keeps trading in the rain and only stops if there is a threat to public safety.
Because the market runs on only two Sundays a month, check the date before you leave. The Gympie District Show's Facebook page has more than 14,000 followers, and Southside was originally known as Gympie South.
