Taylor Square turned back into a market square in late 2025, with a Saturday farmers market and a Friday night session as part of the Oxford Street revitalisation.
About this market
Taylor Square has carried a Saturday produce market for well over a decade, but the current one is new. The City of Sydney handed operation of the Taylor Square markets to Organic Food Markets from 31 October 2025 as part of the Oxford Street revitalisation, and the Saturday farmers market debuted under the Oxford Street name on 8 November 2025. It trades 8am to 2pm every Saturday, rain or shine.
Two sessions, two different markets
The Saturday session is the farmers market proper: organic produce, fresh flowers, local honey, sourdough, small-batch condiments, handmade ceramics and boutique coffee, with stallholders selected for locally grown goods and low-waste or compostable packaging. The Friday session is a different animal, running 5pm to 10pm on the same square and pitched at the evening crowd rather than the grocery shopper. Both are free to enter. The square sits at the intersection of Oxford and Bourke Streets, which is about as central as an inner-Sydney market gets, and the site is flat, paved and open on all sides.
Market at a glance
The market is explicitly part of a bigger plan for the street. Oxford Street lost a lot of its retail life over the 2010s, and a weekly market on the square is one of the levers the council has reached for to bring foot traffic back. Council has also gone as far as investigating permanent power and drinking water infrastructure at the square for vendors, which is a signal that this is meant to be a fixture rather than an activation.
Taylor Square's market history runs back much further than the current operator. A Saturday farmers market was already trading here in April 2010, and the square has changed hands and names since without ever losing its Saturday morning.
Good to know before you go
Getting here without a car is the whole point of the location. Taylor Square is a short walk from Museum and Kings Cross stations and is on every Oxford Street bus route, and parking in Darlinghurst on a Saturday morning is not worth attempting. Bring your own bags, since low-waste packaging is part of the stallholder brief and you should not expect to be handed much. Come before 11am for the produce and after 11am if you want the square at its busiest. Note there is no market over the New Year period, when the Saturday sessions pause for a fortnight.
