Motor Transport Companies once parked 192 trucks and cars on what had been a horse paddock turned parade ground, the drill hall became a makeshift hospital, and the Sidetrack Theatre operated as an x-ray centre. When the army finally pulled out in 1975, the Commonwealth handed the tired, dilapidated depot over for public use in 1976, and it's since grown into the thriving community and market precinct it is today.
