Gosford City Farmers Markets

A Central Coast farmers market with roots in a short-lived Newcastle railway shed venture from the year 2000.

About this market

Gosford City Farmers Markets has traded on the Central Coast for more than 15 years, but its organisers' history in the farmers market format goes back further still. In March 2000, the same team ran the Original Fine Food Market at Newcastle's Honeysuckle Railway Sheds, now the site of the Newcastle Museum, a venture that lasted only about eight months before the operation found its lasting home further south at Gosford.

From a short-lived Newcastle venture to a Central Coast institution

That early false start didn't stop the concept from eventually taking hold. Now settled at Mt Penang Gardens in Kariong, the market has built a genuinely broad offering: organic and conventionally raised lamb, beef, pork, goat, chicken and duck sit alongside trout, salmon and oysters, plus salamis, charcuterie, pate, hand-made pasta and a range of cheeses, a depth of range that goes well beyond a typical produce-only farmers market.

Reviewers consistently recommend arriving right at 7am, since popular items sell out quickly and queues build fast, with a specific mushroom stand and egg stall drawing repeat praise, and reviewers noting the vegetables genuinely last longer than supermarket-bought equivalents.

Good to know before you go

An early 7am arrival is genuinely worth the effort, given reviewers consistently mention queues and sold-out stalls later in the morning. Cash is welcomed at most stalls, worth having on hand rather than relying solely on card payments.
