Harvest Market was founded on 12 February 2012 by Jenny Edis and Mary Mulvaney, with Kim Hewitt among its founders, built on a simple rule: if it isn't grown, baked, pickled or brewed by you from Tasmanian produce, you don't get a stall. That founding standard has held for more than a decade, and it's earned the market genuine national recognition.

Australia's most outstanding farmers market, three times over

Harvest Market has been named Australia's Most Outstanding Farmers Market by Harvey Norman Delicious Magazine on three separate occasions, in 2013, 2017 and 2021, a level of repeat national recognition few Australian markets can match. That reputation has fed directly into Launceston's own standing: the market is credited as a contributing factor in the city's 2021 recognition as a UNESCO City of Gastronomy.

Reviewers consistently describe the range as genuinely impressive for a market of its size, street food, artisan gins, ciders and meads, exotic spices, honey and vegan cashew cheeses, all backed by live music that turns a Saturday grocery run into a proper morning out.

Good to know before you go

Dogs aren't allowed on site, worth knowing ahead of a visit if a pet usually tags along. It wraps by 12.30pm, so a reasonably early start makes the most of both the produce selection and the live music atmosphere before the morning winds down.
