Willunga Farmers Market opened in February 2002 as South Australia's very first farmers market, built specifically to give small local producers a direct line to customers rather than routing everything through wholesalers. More than two decades later, it's still setting the standard it helped create, held every Saturday in the grounds of Willunga High School.

Local restaurants reportedly source directly from stallholders here, a level of trade credibility that few community markets earn.

Reviewers consistently praise the quality bar, comparing it to a scene from a food-tourism film, though a few long-time regulars note that the bustling atmosphere and live entertainment that once defined it have thinned out somewhat in recent visits, still solid, just not quite the peak buzz of earlier years.

Willunga carries a second Saturday morning market a short walk away, and the two are easily confused: the Green Light Organic Market trades at the Willunga Recreation Park on the corner of Aldinga and Main Roads, with published criteria covering organic, fair trade, recycled and ethically produced goods. Doing both in one morning is entirely feasible, and a good many visitors come down from Adelaide to do exactly that. That two established markets can fill their stalls on the same morning in a town this size says something about the density of small growers and producers across the Fleurieu.
