Orange Farmers Market

Orange grows cool climate fruit better than almost anywhere in the state, and once a month around sixty producers bring the evidence to the Naylor Pavilion. Being under a roof matters here more than it does closer to the coast: Orange sits high in the Central West tablelands, and a second Saturday in July is not weather you want to shop in.

What sixty stalls of Central West actually looks like

Fruit and vegetables lead, alongside honey, eggs and meat from growers within driving distance. There is hot breakfast and coffee, which turns the market from an errand into a morning out, and the pavilion layout means you can do a full lap without losing anyone. Three and a half hours is a tight window for that many stalls, so the middle of the morning is genuinely busy.

The gold coin at the gate is the only cost of entry and it is not really a gate fee. Rotary Daybreak collect it and spend it on local projects, which is the arrangement that keeps a volunteer market running with no ticketing and no fuss.

Good to know before you go

Bring a gold coin, bags and cash, though most stalls handle cards. The showground has plenty of parking and it is a five minute drive from the middle of town. Being indoors makes this one of the more comfortable winter markets in the Central West, and one of the few worth planning a cold morning around. Get there by nine if you want the pick of the produce, because a midday finish means the good growers sell out well before the end.
