Leura Produce & Artisan Market

The market takes over the grounds of the Fairmont Resort one Sunday a month, and the layout is the thing people remember. Stalls begin in the carpark, which sounds unpromising until you follow them down and around the pond, where the run of more than 70 sites opens out. It finishes under a covered gazebo with live music and somewhere to sit, which is a better piece of planning than it sounds: the Blue Mountains weather does what it likes, and a market with a roof at the end of it is a market you can still enjoy in the drizzle.

Produce first, then the makers

The billing is produce and artisans, in that order, and the balance holds up. Growers and local food producers make up the backbone, with artists and makers filling out the rest. It is worth arriving hungry and with a bag you have not already filled.

Leura is the polite one of the mountain villages, and the market fits it. This is not a trash and treasure sprawl where the fun is in the digging. It is a curated Sunday morning with good coffee in it, and the mountain air does the rest.

Good to know before you go

January is the one month it does not run, so a summer road trip needs checking against the calendar first. The 9am to 1pm window is genuinely short for a market this size, and the middle of it is the busiest, so an early start buys you both the produce and somewhere to park. The resort is a few minutes above the village, which makes it easy to pair the two: the market in the morning, then Leura Mall and the Cascades or Sublime Point lookout afterwards. Bring layers whatever the forecast says. At this altitude a bright morning and a cold wind arrive together more often than not.
