In 1926, the Metropolitan Market Trust was established to run West Perth's markets, which opened in 1929 and served the state for sixty years. When that site could no longer keep pace with the industry, the Trust relocated everything to a purpose-built 51-hectare site at Canning Vale in 1989, and Market City was born.
