The Lions Vasse Twilight Markets

The Lions Vasse Twilight Markets are not a monthly fixture. The Lions Club of Vasse runs a small number of dated Friday evenings each year, and for each one Napoleon Promenade, the main street through Vasse Village, is closed to traffic from 4pm to 9pm. That single decision is what separates this from an ordinary car park market: for five hours the road becomes a walkable festival street with the village's own shops trading either side of the stalls.

What 45 stalls on a closed street looks like

Each event carries more than 45 market stalls covering crafts, gifts and food products, with local food vendors alongside them and Village stores extending their trading hours to match. The Lions run their own classic sausage sizzle, which is the club's usual fundraising fixture, and live music plays through the evening. Activities for children run alongside, and the whole layout is designed around people walking the street rather than filing past a single row of trestle tables.

The stallholder rules tell you something about how the event is run. Gazebos are not permitted and no vehicles are allowed inside the market area, which keeps the street clear and the sight lines open. Spaces are not pre-assigned either: vendors choose their own spot on the night, with only restricted areas marked out.

Good to know before you go

Check the date before you drive. With only a handful of events a year, turning up in Vasse on a random Friday will find you a quiet village street. Vasse sits a few minutes east of Busselton on the way to the Margaret River region, so the market pairs naturally with a weekend down south rather than being a destination in itself. Park in the streets around the Village rather than trying to get onto Napoleon Promenade, which is closed. Bring cash for the smaller craft stalls and for the sausage sizzle, and bring a jacket, because an October or January evening near the coast cools off quickly once the sun goes.
