Kalamunda Night Market

The Kalamunda Night Market is owned and run by the Kalamunda Chamber of Commerce, an independent volunteer not-for-profit, which is an unusual arrangement for a market of this size. It means the event exists to bring people into the town centre rather than to turn a profit, and it shows in the format: the street is closed to cars, the surrounding shops stay open, and entry is free.

A traffic-free town centre for four hours

The market takes over Central Mall between Haynes Street and Mead Street, extending down towards Barber Street near the Town Hall. Trading runs from 5pm to 9pm, which puts the busiest part of the evening after dark and gives the Perth Hills setting most of its atmosphere. Stalls run to handmade local arts and crafts, jewellery and clothing, with food trucks lined up alongside the local restaurants and pubs that stay open for the night. Live entertainment comes from local musicians rather than touring acts.

Not every date lands on the same site or the same day. The chamber runs occasional variations, including a Christmas in July edition held on a Saturday afternoon at Chalet Rigi on Mundaring Weir Road, plus December dates staged at Stirk Park rather than in the mall. The published calendar is the only reliable guide.

Good to know before you go

Check the published dates first. This is not a fixed weekly fixture, and a wasted trip up the hill is easy to avoid. Parking sits in the streets around the mall and fills from about 5pm, so arriving early is worth it if you want to be close. Bring a jacket: Kalamunda sits high enough in the hills that an evening there runs cooler than the same night on the coastal plain. If you want the market as part of a longer day, the same Central Mall hosts the Kalamunda Artisan Market, and the chamber also runs a farmers market in town on Sunday mornings.
