Seymour Rotary Market

Kings Park sits on Tallarook Street where the road runs into the middle of Seymour, which makes it about the most visible site in town for a market. On the third Sunday of the month the Rotary Club fills it, and four hours is enough for a town of this size to get through the whole thing properly.

Plants, food trucks and a garden section

The stall mix leans practical: plants and garden items are a genuine section rather than a token stall, alongside artisan goods, gifts, specialty products and pet supplies. Food trucks and coffee cover the rest, and the park has the lawn and shade to make eating there the obvious move. It is a community market run by a service club, which sets both the tone and the price of a stall.

Being run by Rotary means the takings go into local projects, and it means the market has an organisation behind it rather than a single operator, which is usually the difference between a market that lasts and one that does not.

Good to know before you go

Bring cash and bags, and something to carry plants in if the garden stalls are why you came. Kings Park has parking around it and the site is flat and easy to walk. Seymour is about an hour and a quarter north of Melbourne up the Hume, and the market finishing at one leaves the afternoon for the Goulburn River or the wineries further up the valley. The market also puts on extra dates to coincide with community and tourism events, so an off-month is worth checking rather than assuming.
