Marysville Market

Marysville sits at the foot of Lake Mountain with the Yarra Ranges around it, and its market runs on the second Sunday at Settlers Park, in the car park beside the information centre. Nine months of the year, four hours at a time, and closed through the depth of winter when a mountain town is not the place for an outdoor market.

Produce, preserves and things made nearby

The stall list runs to local gifts and plants, preserves, bread, cakes and biscuits, honey, fruit and vegetables, and wine. It is a small market for a small town, and the appeal is that nearly everything on the trestles comes from within an hour of them.

Being beside the information centre is more useful than it sounds. If you are up here for Lake Mountain, the Steavenson Falls or the Great Victorian Rail Trail, the market morning and the maps are in the same car park.

Good to know before you go

Check the month first, because winter visitors are the ones most likely to make the trip expecting a market. Outside that, four hours from nine is a relaxed window and Settlers Park is right in the middle of town. Bring cash for the smaller stalls. Marysville is about ninety minutes from Melbourne through the Black Spur, which is one of the better drives in the state and reason enough to time a visit for a second Sunday.
