Bendigo Showgrounds Market

Bendigo Showgrounds Market trades every Sunday at the Prince of Wales Showgrounds, home to an agricultural society with a genuinely long history behind it. The Bendigo Agricultural Show Society was established in 1859 and has run its annual show every year since, aside from wartime interruptions, making it one of the oldest continuously operating agricultural institutions in regional Victoria.

Showgrounds named for a royal visit

The current showgrounds site wasn't always home to the Bendigo Show. Until 1968, the show was held at what's now the Tom Flood Sport Centre, before the society moved to its present location that year. The grounds only took their current name, the Prince of Wales Showgrounds, in 1974, to commemorate a visit by HRH the Prince of Wales that year, a naming with genuine royal history behind it rather than just a generic showground title.
