Ballan Lions Community Market

The Ballan Lions Club runs a community market the first Saturday of every month except January, from 9am to 1pm, lining Inglis Street through the middle of Ballan rather than confining stalls to a single showground or car park.

A main street market, not a fenced-off one

Running along the main street rather than in an enclosed venue changes the character of the market: stalls sit between the town's existing shops rather than replacing a day's shopping trip, and what's on offer spans a wide range, from second-hand goods and collectables through to fresh produce and local crafts. Locals describe it as running "from flea market to upmarket" in the same stretch of street, which is a fair description of a market built to serve a small town's whole population rather than one niche of shopper.

Ballan already has a separate farmers market at a fixed address on the same street, on a different Saturday, which is a natural source of confusion for a first-time visitor checking dates. The Lions market keeps its own identity by running the street itself rather than a single site, and by adding a December Twilight Market with festive activities on top of its usual monthly slot.
