About this market
Yandina Country Markets was established on 18 July 1990 and has run every Saturday morning since, from 6am until noon. It is held on North Street at the Yandina Sports Ground and has been drawing thousands of visitors every Saturday since.
Plants, produce and trash and treasure
The market specialises in plants, local produce and second-hand items, with deli produce added in recent years. Stalls range from locally grown fruit and vegetables, flowers and freshly baked bread to olives, spices, drinks, collectables and garden tools, and one guide calls it perhaps the largest of the local markets.
Visit Sunshine Coast advises arriving early. The market's Facebook page has more than 21,000 followers, and it lists the day's news there as well as on Instagram.
Market at a glance
Before you go
The market starts at 6am, so plan an early visit if you want the best of the plants and produce. The venue is the Yandina Sports Ground on North Street.
Yandina is in the Sunshine Coast hinterland and had a population of 3,073 at the 2021 census. Aboriginal people of the Gubbi Gubbi language group have lived in the Yandina district for over 40,000 years. The Bruce Highway bypasses the town to the east, and the North Coast railway line passes through the town, which has its own station. In the late 1860s Yandina became a stopping point for prospectors travelling from Brisbane to the Gympie gold rush, and the town was surveyed in 1870, making it the first town in the Maroochy district. Its Anglican church, opened in 1880, is the oldest on the Sunshine Coast, and the heritage streetscape of Stevens Street has been preserved. The Yandina hotel dates from 1889 and was moved by rollers and a bullock team in 1891 when the railway came through.
Yandina's name comes from the Kabi words 'yan dhinang', meaning to cross water by foot, and marks the first upstream ford over the Maroochy River.
Because it runs every Saturday, a missed week is easy to make up.
