Kenilworth Market
A weekly Saturday market in Kenilworth Town Park, in the Mary Valley behind the Sunshine Coast.

About this market
Kenilworth Market sets up in Kenilworth Town Park every Saturday, from 8am until 1:30pm. The park is on Charles Street at the corner of Elizabeth Street, in a Mary Valley town about 50 km from the Sunshine Coast, where dairy farming is the major industry.
A compact country market in the Mary Valley
Listings describe a small country market where local honey, relishes, jams, pickles and seedlings sit beside handmade jewellery, clothing and fresh produce, and Visit Sunshine Coast notes coffee and stalls in the hinterland township. The market's Facebook page also promotes visiting food vans, such as the Beef Bus, when they return on a Saturday.
Kenilworth had a population of 604 at the 2021 census. Its western edge is in Conondale National Park, and the Maleny to Kenilworth Road and Obi Obi Road both lead into town, which makes the market a natural stop on a hinterland drive.
Market at a glance
Before you go
Trading runs from 8am until 1:30pm, which is later than many hinterland markets, so there is no need for a dawn start. The park is on Charles Street, and the market's Facebook page and Instagram account are the places to check for visiting food vans and any change of plans.
The town has a long farming history. The first cattle run on the east bank of the Mary River was taken up in 1850, and settlers who arrived in 1891 turned to dairying and pig breeding after floods in 1893, 1895 and 1898 wiped out their crops. The Kenilworth Farmers' Association built the Farmers Assembly Hall in 1907. Aboriginal people knew the Kenilworth area as Hinka Booma, and Andrew Petrie named the Mary River the Wide Bay River in 1842, before Governor Fitzroy renamed it after his wife in 1847.
Kenilworth was named by a settler's wife who was reading Sir Walter Scott's novel Kenilworth when her husband took up the first cattle run on the Mary River in 1850.
Kenilworth is a little over two hours' drive north of Brisbane, so allow time for the trip if you are coming from the city.
