VEND Marketplace

VEND Marketplace opened in Virginia in 2018, founded by Brisbane local Amy Hinschen alongside friends Jeremy and Anna Cooke. The idea came directly from New York: after seeing permanent indoor markets thriving there, Amy decided Brisbane deserved a space where small businesses and the community could come together, grow together, and support one another, rather than the city's more typical weekend-only market format.

An everyday market inspired by New York

That New York-inspired permanence is what sets VEND apart. Instead of a single weekly trading day, it operates every day of the week, giving small business owners a genuine ongoing retail presence rather than a once-a-week pop-up. The concept proved successful enough that a second VEND Marketplace opened in Annerley on 8 April 2023, five years after the original Virginia site, extending the model to a second Brisbane suburb.

Reviewers consistently praise the unique and fairly priced stalls alongside a genuinely good on-site cafe, chicken burgers get a specific mention, though a handful note the indoor, confined layout can feel crowded when multiple dogs are brought through at once.
