Sunrise Markets at Witton Barracks

The park this market sets up in was a prisoner of war interrogation site. Witton Barracks in Indooroopilly is a heritage-listed former military property, and its three cell block buildings are the only purpose-built World War II interrogation facilities for prisoners of war in Australia. Brisbane City Council bought the site in 2016 and has since turned it into a community hub with a park and a playground. The Sunrise Markets run there on the first and third Sunday of the month, 8am to 1pm, free entry.

Makers and growers on a heritage site

The stall mix leans both ways. On the makers side there is vintage fashion, handmade pottery and woodwork, flowers, jewellery and candles. On the growers side there is farm-fresh fruit and vegetables, gourmet pantry goods including olives and honey, plus pastries, cupcakes, cookies and freshly brewed coffee. No booking is required, entry is free, and dogs are welcome, which suits a site that already functions as a neighbourhood park. Witton Barracks Park sits at 9 Lambert Road, a short walk from Indooroopilly train station and from the Indooroopilly Riverwalk, the pedestrian and cycle structure that runs out over the Brisbane River. The market runs through the summer as well: Via Brisbane lists a Sunday 18 January 2026 market at the usual 8am to 1pm.

The buildings around the stalls are not ordinary heritage buildings.

Good to know before you go

First and third Sunday, 8am to 1pm, right through the year, so a January visit works as well as a winter one. Entry is free and no booking is needed. The train is the easy option: Indooroopilly station is a short walk, and the Riverwalk connects the site to the river path if you want to make a longer morning of it. Dogs are welcome, and there is a playground on site, so children have somewhere to go. Give the heritage buildings ten minutes even if you came only for the coffee. This is Turrbal and Jagera country.
