Plainland Country Market
A handmade market on the fourth Sunday of the month (not January) in the park beside the Plainland Hotel.

About this market
Plainland Country Market is held on the fourth Sunday of every month, except January, from 7am to noon, in the park beside Porters Plainland Hotel on the Warrego Highway. The market's Facebook page calls it a handmade market, and its page has more than 3,400 followers.
Handmade goods, food and a dog wash
The stall list covers fresh fruit and vegetables, arts and crafts, pet treats, food vendors and a coffee van, and listings mention fresh sourdough and a seafood van. Children can have their faces painted, and dogs on a lead are welcome, with a mobile dog wash on site.
Tourism listings give winter hours of 8am to noon from June to August, so the later start is worth remembering in the cooler months. The market's address is 66 Laidley Plainland Road, Plainland.

A German settlement on the Warrego Highway
Plainland is in the Lockyer Valley, 75 km west of Brisbane, and had a population of 1,930 at the 2021 census. It was settled by a dozen German families, mostly from West Prussia, in 1878. The community built a Lutheran church in 1884, replaced in 1897, and by 1911 about 60 families were living in the area, served by three blacksmiths, a hotel, a school and a general store.
The Plainland Hotel opened in 1905, and Schulte's Gourmet Market, which opened in 1952, still sells local meats and produce. The market skips January, so there is no market in the first month of the year. Wikipedia notes a dedicated highway interchange with the Warrego Highway built with federal funding in 2004, the Plainland Plaza shopping centre in 2005, and a hotel that celebrated 120 years of local business in 2025. Schulte's also runs monthly car shows.
