Mossman Saturday Market

A Saturday morning market under the Raintrees on Foxton Avenue, beside heritage-listed St David's Church, with produce straight from local farmers.

About this market

Mossman Saturday Market, which Douglas Shire Council lists as the Mossman Community Markets, runs every Saturday from 7am to 1pm on Foxton Avenue. Stalls are set out beneath large, old Raintrees next to the historic St David's Church, which gives the market a shaded, leafy setting.

Produce from the people who grow it

The council describes fresh produce available straight from the farmers themselves, alongside organic produce and handcrafted items. It is a country-style market of a size that suits a small town, and the Saturday timing puts it at the front of the weekend for locals and for visitors staying in the area.

Mossman sits at the edge of the Daintree. Mossman Gorge, west of town, is part of Daintree National Park and the wider Wet Tropics World Heritage area. The town's sugar history runs deep: Mossman Central Mill began crushing on 23 August 1897, and the river was named by George Dalrymple on 6 December 1873 after Hugh Mosman, who found gold at Charters Towers. The post office was open by 1895 and renamed Mossman in 1899, and Mossman River State School opened on 31 January 1898. The Captain Cook Highway opened in 1933, which led to the closure of the tramway between Mossman and Port Douglas. The 2021 census recorded 1,935 residents in the locality.

Good to know before you go

The market is next door to St David's Anglican Church at 3 Foxton Avenue, which is heritage-listed, so it is easy to pair a browse with a look at the building from outside. The council says the ground is grassed with no paved pathways and may be uneven in places, so flat, comfortable shoes are a sensible choice.
