Global Food Markets started in the early 2000s with just five stallholders, Cambodian and Pacific Islander farmers selling fresh produce grown on their own properties and backyards across Logan. The Ethnic Communities Council of Logan Inc created the market together with Logan City Council, aiming to build a genuinely social space where the local migrant community could buy and sell food grown close to home.

That modest beginning has grown dramatically. Within a few years, word of the market's fresh produce and affordable prices spread far enough that it expanded past 100 stallholders, reflecting the extraordinary diversity of the city around it: Logan is Australia's most culturally diverse city and second only to New York worldwide, home to more than 215 different ethnic groups. Stallholders here trade produce and dishes from South-East Asia, India, Africa, the Pacific Islands and the Middle East, all within a single Sunday market.

Reviewers consistently point to the sheer variety of fruit and vegetables, priced low enough to surprise regular shoppers, alongside Thai, Chinese and other South-East Asian food stalls right at the Woodridge train station exit, though several note bringing cash is essential since many stallholders don't accept card payments.
