Cairns Night Markets occupies a purpose-built, two-floor complex on Abbott Street in the middle of the CBD, and it opens every night of the year: 365 nights, Christmas Day included. That's a genuinely unusual claim for a market to make and back up, and it's the single fact that separates this from most night markets, which tend to run two or three nights a week at most.

Built for the tropics, not around them

Being fully air-conditioned is a real design decision, not a footnote. Far North Queensland evenings run hot and humid for most of the year, and a covered, cooled complex makes browsing genuinely comfortable in a way an open-air night market in the same climate wouldn't be. Around 70 shops spread across the two floors, covering souvenirs, fashion, tropical art, Australian pearls, and skincare built on local oils, alongside a licensed food court and a cluster of massage operators.

Massage is enough of a fixture here that it's worth calling out on its own. Multiple operators run everything from traditional Chinese massage to straightforward relaxation treatments, generally from early afternoon onward, aimed squarely at people who've spent the day on reef trips or walking the Esplanade.

Good to know before you go

There's paid parking on Level One if you're driving, and one of the longtime fixtures, a crepe stand, doesn't open until the evening rush from about 4:30pm, so it's worth timing a visit for early evening rather than mid-afternoon if that's on your list. As a covered, air-conditioned complex it works just as well as a wet-weather backup plan as it does a deliberate night out.
