Paddy's Markets Flemington opened in 1975, when Sydney's wholesale produce trade moved out of the old Haymarket site to a purpose-built complex at Flemington. When Haymarket's Paddy's Market was redeveloped into Market City in 1997, the Flemington weekend market stayed open anyway. The combined capacity of both sites was worth more than closing one down.
