The historic precinct of Scandinavian Crescent and Camp Street comes alive on the third Sunday of every month, when more than 100 stalls set up along streets that gold prospectors once walked. Up to 2,000 people visit each month, a genuinely large turnout for a town this size, drawn by organic produce, local honey and olives, continental cakes and home-made cheeses set against a backdrop of well-preserved goldfields architecture.

Reviewers consistently describe the market as bigger and better than expected, with the layout drawing visitors through a genuine meander around the town itself, tomato varieties get a specific mention as a standout, alongside a friendly community barbecue offering sausages and burgers at reasonable prices.

The meander is partly by design, because the town puts on two markets on the same morning and lays them out so that walking between the two takes you through the heritage streetscape. The Talbot Town Hall Market runs in and around the restored town hall on Ballarat Street at the same hours, carrying craft, books, plants, collectables and artisan work rather than produce, and the two are promoted as complementary halves of one Sunday.
