Castlemaine Artists Market

Castlemaine runs several markets and this is the one where the stallholders are the makers. The Castlemaine Artists Market runs the fourth Sunday of the month at the Western Reserve, on the corner of Wheeler and Forest Streets, from 10am to 2pm. Its 2026 calendar runs through to a December date that is not a Sunday at all.

A market with no resellers

The distinction that matters here is between artists and stallholders. This is a market of central Victorian artists, designers, crafters and artisans selling their own work, and the range on offer covers handcrafted leather goods, silver jewellery, screen-printed products, ceramics, designer clothing and timber homewares. Visit Victoria puts the count at over 60 established and emerging makers. The Western Reserve is a short walk from the Castlemaine town centre, and it is a different site from the Forest Street reserve the town's farmers market uses, so the two are easy to confuse and are separate markets on separate weekends.

One date in the calendar breaks the pattern, and it is the one worth planning around.

Good to know before you go

Fourth Sunday, 10am to 2pm, so this is a mid-morning market rather than an early one, which suits a drive up from Melbourne. The market publishes its dates on its own site, and the second half of 2026 runs 26 July, 23 August, 27 September, 25 October and 22 November before the Friday twilight market on 11 December. The Western Reserve is on the corner of Wheeler and Forest Streets, walkable from the station and the town centre, with street parking around it. Castlemaine also runs a farmers market and a vintage market at other points in the month, so check which one you are actually after before you set the alarm.
