Boneo Community Market

Boneo Community Market has run at the Boneo Recreation Reserve since 1977, making it the Mornington Peninsula's longest-running volunteer-operated market. It's entirely run by the community for the community, once a month on the third Saturday, and every stallholder works under the same rule: "Make It, Grow It, Bake It, then you can bring it and sell it."

Nearly 50 years on the third Saturday

That maker-only rule has held for decades and now stretches across roughly 160 stalls of pottery, artwork, knitted garments, produce, plants, scones, cakes, jams and preserves. The market's origins trace back to a landscape of grazing properties that gradually gave way to market gardens, and that shift shows up directly in the produce on the tables today. Money raised after costs goes back into the Boneo area, supporting the local tennis club, cricket club and primary school.

Every item on every table has to be made, grown or baked by the person selling it, no reselling of imported goods or mass-produced stock allowed, which keeps the market genuinely local nearly five decades in.
