Fullarton Market

Fullarton takes its name from Jane Fullarton, wife of James Frew, who laid out the suburb in 1849 as one of the early subdivisions south of the Adelaide city grid. Today that same patch of ground, three kilometres from the CBD, hosts Fullarton Market on the 4th Saturday of every month at the Fullarton Park Community Centre carpark, a venue that has served the local community for well over a century in one form or another.

Over 100 exhibitors on Fullarton Road

The market draws more than 100 regular exhibitors to the community centre carpark on Fullarton Road, running from around 9am to 1:30pm. Stalls cover an extensive range of plants alongside homemade food, hot and cold drinks, arts and crafts, jewellery and books, making it as much a plant-buying trip as a market outing for locals in Adelaide's inner south. The City of Unley runs the market as part of a wider events calendar at the Community Centre, which also hosts programs, classes and hireable venues throughout the year.

Because the market only runs once a month rather than weekly, exhibitor numbers and the plant selection tend to build up over the weeks between markets, giving each one a bit more scale than a typical suburban Saturday stall line-up. Regulars often plan their garden shopping around the monthly date specifically because of that scale.

Good to know before you go

With the market held only on the 4th Saturday of the month, it pays to check the exact date before visiting rather than assuming any given Saturday. The Fullarton Park Community Centre carpark hosts the stalls directly, keeping parking and access straightforward for the monthly turnout. Being just three kilometres from the Adelaide CBD, it's an easy add-on to a wider morning out in Unley rather than a destination trip on its own.
