Taiwan Night Market

Taiwan Night Market ran as a trial through 2015 before its official opening in 2016, marked with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and traditional Chinese dragon dancing. Guests at the opening included the Eastwood Chamber of Commerce president and former City of Ryde mayor Vic Tagg, a sign of how quickly the market had been taken seriously as a fixture rather than a pop-up.

A dedicated food court on Rowe Street

The market sits at 178-182 Rowe Street, just off Eastwood Plaza, and has grown into a lineup of around eleven food stalls covering Taiwanese street food specialties, plus roughly ten retail stalls selling merchandise and novelties. It trades four nights a week, Thursday through Sunday, giving it a longer run than most single-night markets in Sydney's west.

Eastwood already had a reputation as one of Sydney's Chinatown-style food precincts before this market arrived, but the dragon-dance opening ceremony in 2016 signalled that this particular market meant to stick around rather than test the waters and fold.

Worth knowing before you go

Don't confuse this with the separate Eastwood Night Markets held Saturdays at Eastwood Plaza itself; Taiwan Night Market is its own venue at 178-182 Rowe St and runs four nights rather than one. Arrive hungry rather than browsing first, since the food stalls are the main draw and queues build once the dinner crowd arrives.
