Hurstville Night Markets

A free monthly night market at Hurstville Plaza with street food, artisan stalls and live music on the last Friday of every month.

About this market

Hurstville Night Markets launched on 5 October 2024 in Hurstville Plaza, presented by the Georges River Association in partnership with Business Chamber South. Between then and November 2025 the market ran eleven times, drawing crowds Georges River Council estimated at 2,000 to 5,000 visitors an event, mostly aged 18 to 35 spending $20 to $50 a head on the night.

From community trial to permanent fixture

The original idea came from independent councillor Ben Wang, put to a council meeting in March 2024. What started as an occasional community trial proved popular enough that Georges River Council voted in November 2025 to make it a permanent monthly event. For its April 2026 relaunch, the council brought in a new operator, The Market Edit, whose founder Justin Levy has more than fifteen years running markets across Sydney at venues including Entertainment Quarter, Barangaroo, Paddington and The Rocks. The market now trades on the last Friday of every month.

What's on the night

The format leans on street food: earlier markets featured Asian cuisine alongside international and local vendors cooking on site, plus artisan stalls selling handmade goods, custom accessories and jewellery. Live music and cultural performances run through the evening, giving Hurstville Plaza a different character after dark than its usual daytime foot traffic. Under the Association's run, performances were scheduled in half-hour blocks alternating with half-hour breaks, a rhythm designed to give visitors clear windows to eat and browse stalls without the entertainment competing for attention the whole night.

Did you know?

Hurstville Night Markets began as a Georges River Association initiative proposed by independent councillor Ben Wang in March 2024. After council made it a permanent monthly fixture in November 2025, it passed the market to a new operator, The Market Edit, rather than the Association that had built it up over 11 markets.

Entry is free. The council's own 2026 tender process didn't go to the Association that had run all eleven previous markets, so the event's exact shape under its new operator may keep evolving. Because the market only trades once a month, it's worth checking Georges River Council's own events page for the current month's date and any format changes before heading down.
