Sutton Village Country Markets
A second-Sunday village market at Sutton Oval, just over the Canberra border, focused on local makers and home growers.

About this market
Sutton Village Country Markets take over Sutton Oval on the second Sunday of every month, from 9am to 1:30pm. The village sits on the west bank of the Yass River in the Southern Tablelands, just over the Canberra border and off the Federal Highway, which makes the market an easy half-day trip for Canberra and Queanbeyan households.
A village with a long survey history
Sutton began as a land reservation surveyed by Robert Hoddle in 1835. It was surveyed again in 1866 by Edward Twynam, who named it after Joseph Sutton, and the village was officially gazetted in July 1867. Sutton public school opened in 1870 as a provisional school. Today the village has a general store, a baker and an artists gallery, and the market adds a monthly gathering to that list.
The market focuses on local makers and home growers. Its stallholder rules say products must be predominantly made by the seller or their business, which keeps the day weighted towards handmade goods rather than bought-in stock. Buskers get two-hour slots, either 9:20 to 11:20am or 11:35am to 1:30pm, so there is live music planned into the morning.
Market at a glance
Good to know before you go
The 2026 calendar on the market's website lists Mother's Day Market on 10 May, a Birthday Market on 13 September, and a Christmas Market on 13 December. It also records that the February, July and August dates were cancelled for weather, so it is worth checking the website or Facebook page the morning of a market if the forecast is poor.
Parking is roadside along the oval boundary, and visitors are asked to stay out of private parking in the village. Public toilets are beside the Village Hall, behind the tennis court. The little bakehouse opposite the oval is a natural stop before or after browsing.
The market's rules welcome pigs as well as dogs and cats, as long as they are on a leash.
