Kingscliff Lions Beachside Market

A Lions Club beachside market on the second and fourth Saturday of each month at Jack Bayliss Park, from 8am to 1pm.

About this market

The Kingscliff Lions Beachside Market runs on the second and fourth Saturday of every month, from 8am to 1pm, at the northern end of Jack Bayliss Park on Marine Parade. The site is between Terrace Street and Ocean Street at Kingscliff Beach, and the market is run by the Kingscliff Lions Club in partnership with Tweed Shire Council.

Creative stalls by the beach

The market's website describes creative small business vendors, including artists, designers and jewellers, alongside food merchants that range from local farmers to deli specialists. With two Saturdays a month, it is a regular fixture rather than an occasional event, and the beachfront setting adds to the pull.

13 kmSouth of Tweed Heads

Kingscliff is a coastal town 13 kilometres south of Tweed Heads, about 112 kilometres south-east of Brisbane and 60 kilometres north of Byron Bay. James Cook named the area Sutherland Point in 1770, and in the 1870s Carl Hans Gaenshirt became the first private landowner, planting a vineyard. Subdivision followed from 1915, and the locality was renamed Kingscliff in 1926 to avoid confusion with nearby Cudgen. The Ngandowal and Minyungbal-speaking peoples of the Bundjalung Nation are recognised as the traditional custodians of the region. The 2016 census recorded 7,464 residents.

Good to know before you go

Check the date before you travel: the market is not weekly, so only the second and fourth Saturdays count. The market's website lists the next date and has a contact page for stall enquiries, and the Facebook page posts updates close to each market day.

Did you know?

Kingscliff was renamed in 1926 to avoid confusion with nearby Cudgen, and James Cook had named the area Sutherland Point in 1770.

The foreshore has been through changes. Wikipedia notes the main beach has suffered erosion, and a foreshore revitalisation project that began in March 2016 included a seawall and new recreational spaces. The market sits in that beachfront precinct, so it works well alongside a walk or swim before the stalls open.
