Huskisson Market

Huskisson is a small town that fills up every summer, and the market on the second Sunday is one of the few things on its calendar that belongs to the locals first. The sports ground beside the bowling club is a short walk from the water, and five hours is enough to shop, eat and still have most of a Jervis Bay Sunday left.

Plants, craft and bric-a-brac, in that order

The stall list leans towards live plants and unique arts and crafts, with fresh produce and a long run of bric-a-brac behind them. It is a community market rather than a curated one, which means the range is uneven in the way that makes a market worth walking twice. Being run by the Chamber of Commerce rather than a promoter keeps the stall fees local and the emphasis on the town.

Parking, toilets and disabled access are all on site, which sounds unremarkable until you compare it to the beachside markets nearby that have none of the three.

Good to know before you go

Bring cash and a bag. In summer, come early: Huskisson's population multiplies in January and the streets around the sports ground fill by nine. In winter it is a quieter and arguably better market, with the same stallholders and a fraction of the crowd. The bowling club is next door if you want lunch after, and the Jervis Bay foreshore is a two minute walk, which makes this the rare market where the walk afterwards is the reason to stay.
