Berrima Schoolyard Market
A fourth-Sunday market in the grounds of Berrima Public School, with around 50 stalls and all profits going to the school P&C.

About this market
The Berrima Schoolyard Market sets up in the grounds of Berrima Public School on Oxley Street on the fourth Sunday of the month. It has around 50 stalls covering handmade and artisan goods, jewellery, fashion, homewares, fresh produce and food, and entry is free.
A market inside a historic village
Berrima sits on the Old Hume Highway between Sydney and Canberra, close to Mittagong, Bowral and Moss Vale. The surveyor-general chose the site over flood-prone Bong Bong, and the town plan was approved in 1831. Berrima Court House was built between 1833 and 1838, and Berrima Gaol opened in 1839. The railway later bypassed the town, and the village as a whole is listed on the Register of the National Estate. The Surveyor General Inn dates from 1834, and the Holy Trinity Anglican Church (Edmund Blacket, 1849) and St Francis Xavier Catholic Church (Augustus Pugin, 1849 to 1851) are among the village's notable buildings. In 1896 Premier Henry Parkes planted an oak tree near the post office.
This market is a school fundraiser. All profits go to the school's P&C and help fund cooking and gardening lessons, and the school's Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Cafe is open on market day. Buying a coffee or a handmade gift here goes back into the classroom, which sets it apart from a purely commercial market.

Good to know before you go
The season runs from February to November on the fourth Sunday, with a December market on the second Sunday and a break in January. Listings agree on a 9am start but differ on the finish, so aim to arrive in the morning rather than counting on the afternoon. For questions, the organisers can be reached at [email protected] or through theschoolyardmarkets.org.
The village's court house, gaol and old inns are among its historic buildings, so the market pairs with a look around Berrima.
The Surveyor General Inn in Berrima has held a licence continuously since 1839, and the town once had fourteen hotels in or near it in the 1840s.
