Most of the surrounding site, the Brisbane Markets wholesale complex, is not open to casual browsing, and the public's usual way in is the separate Saturday retail market. The Flower Market runs on different terms: it is open six days a week for both wholesale and retail purchases, so anyone can turn up and buy stems at the same counter a working florist uses. Alongside cut flowers, the tenants carry made-up bouquets and arrangements, silk flowers, greenery, glassware and floristry trade supplies.

One of the resident businesses is family operated across two generations with more than 30 years of experience behind it, and specialises in wedding work. Another imports hundreds of thousands of flowers from around the world year round. The range on any given morning depends heavily on the season and on what has just landed, which is the practical trade-off for buying this close to the source.

Saturday is the short day, running 6am to 1pm, and it is the session most likely to suit a shopper rather than a trade buyer. Come early in the week for the widest selection, since Monday and Thursday are the big restocking mornings. Parking sits directly in front of the building, so there is no need to navigate the wider Rocklea site to reach it.
