Bankstown Market

Bankstown Market has traded every Sunday since 1966, one of Sydney's longest continuously running weekend markets. It's held on the grounds of the Bankstown Showground, also known locally as the Bankstown City Paceway, a trotting track in Condell Park that gives the market plenty of open space to spread across.

That kind of longevity is unusual for a suburban market, and it shows in the mix on offer: fresh fruit and vegetables sit alongside secondhand goods, tools, toys, plants and a genuinely multicultural spread of food stalls, leaning more towards a community flea market than a dedicated single-purpose farmers market. It's exactly the kind of broad, all-comers format that has let it stay relevant to Bankstown's shifting community across nearly six decades.

Running on a working trotting track rather than a purpose-built market site means the layout is genuinely spacious, giving stallholders room to spread out that many inner-city weekend markets simply don't have.

Good to know before you go

The Showground setting means plenty of space to park and browse without the tight aisles of a smaller inner-city market, though it's worth bringing cash for stallholder purchases. Arriving earlier in the 8am to 2pm window gives the best pick of both fresh produce and secondhand finds before the market wraps up mid-afternoon.
