Harris Farm Markets Albury

Harris Farm Markets opened its Albury store on 29 January 2021 inside a converted former Bunnings building on Young Street, a $12 million fit-out that made it the largest Harris Farm store anywhere in Australia at 4,450 square metres. The family grocery chain itself dates back to 1971, when David and Cathy Harris opened their first store in Villawood, Sydney.

A flagship-scale store for the border region

Fitting out a big-box hardware building as a fresh food store is no small undertaking, and the Albury project reflected that ambition: around 150 staff were employed from the Border region to run the finished store, a significant local jobs commitment for a single retail opening. The scale gave Harris Farm room to run its full format in Albury, from the fresh produce floor to bakery, deli and grocery sections, rather than a scaled-down regional version of the format found in its Sydney stores.

The building's past life is part of the story locally: a hardware warehouse reborn as a fresh food destination, on a scale big enough to outsize every other Harris Farm store in the country at the time it opened.

Good to know before you go

The store opens daily from 7am, with staff beginning to pack away fresh produce ahead of the official closing time, so it pays to arrive earlier in the day if you want the widest choice on the fruit and vegetable floor. Parking is available on site, and both delivery and click-and-collect ordering are offered for anyone who would rather shop online first.
